Pagan Blocks was a short-lived project — in the most literal sense.

We created it for Maslenitsa, the ancient Slavic holiday when people build effigies, set them on fire, and symbolically escort winter out so spring can finally take over.

Because everything happened fast, almost no documentation survived.

We didn’t manage a real photoshoot.

The installation lived briefly, burned, and disappeared — exactly as the ritual demanded.

For the project, we built a large totem made of paper and cardboard blocks — more than a hundred hand-made pieces.

Each block was wrapped in a pattern created by artist Konstantin Antonov (thelocalgenius.com), who had designed many patterns for us over the years.

This one was dedicated to pagan imagery: winter, spring, transition, Slavic myths, and the strange electricity of seasonal change.


The totem was assembled in a Moscow park and burned, as intended —
a bright, fast, folkloric creature made of paper and cold air,
gone before we even had time to photograph it properly.
